Upvalley cities of St. Helena and Calistoga are supposed to make the mercury rise to slightly below 100 both days, while American Canyon may reach 100 Thursday.

So, what are you going to do to try and beat the heat?
Are there places in Napa County you go when the heat gets to you?

" Wear as little as possible and find a pool or lake. Drink lots of cold water. DO NOT EVER LEAVE YOUR DOGS IN THE CAR WITH THESE TEMPS!!!!! Always make sure your animals have adequate water supply all day.
That's all I can think of, anyone else have any suggestions? "

" Don't leave your children in the car, either, not even for a minute. Take a breath before you leave your car, take a look around to check the back seat. Make sure your children and animals have enough water to drink. "

" Check on your elderly family members and neighbors to make sure they are o.k. and their a/c is in working order.

Set your t-stat at 78 degrees, close the curtains, turn out the lights and just maybe we wont have any blackouts or brownouts from too much electricty usage.

"

" An elderly man having a reaction to diabetic shock ( I think) was sitting in his car stalled at silverado and imola, people drove by him without a thought for his safety at least 25-30 cars ahead of mine. When we pulled up next to him he was visibly in distress. I pulled over and called PD (253-0911) on my cell and waited, paramedics were there in 4-5 minutes and an ambulance came and took him to the hospitol. I could not believe how many people drove right by the old guy. If you see someone in distress at least call "

" Thank god you were there, you saved his life. People are so rude these days. They were probably complaining because he was holding up traffic. Good looking out. "

jfz wrote on May 14, 2008 11:26 PM:

" Fortunately you had more than one person in your car to notice the driver. When I drive (and others, I imagine), I'm looking at the vehicles and for pedestrians, not at a person behind the wheel. Others may have been having conversations and didn't pay attention to the person in distress. Not ALL drivers are rude. Thank heaven you were able to scope out the elderly gentleman. Nice save! "

" I'm waiting for someone to quote It's "Global Warming" from the Al Gore mantra of B.S. We need more Energy resources (Drill our own Oil & New Nuclear Power plants, like the rest of the World) even Third world countries. Here come the Rolling Blackouts!!! "

" 79F at 3am!
82F at 6am!
WOW!

And to think that some of the people do not believe in Global Warming... sounds crazy!

This weather reminds me of being in the USAF and being stationed outside of Phoenix; or maybe when I was stationed in the UAE. That's the only time I can remember tempuratures of this magnitude this early in the morning/summer! "

" uhhh, I didn't think it was really that hot yesterday, we will see about today. Use your AC, Go to buildings with AC, drive cars with AC (using more gas), fill those pools, water your lawns, make sure those grapes have plenty of water. Don't worry about cooling down and watering down, we have PLENTY of water and energy. "

nweaver wrote on May 15, 2008 7:58 AM:

" What was shocking this morning was the wind and that it didn't cool down.

Hot days I can stand: Open up the house at night and trap the cool night air, then seal it up during the day. Especially when on the more southern end of the city. Normally you don't need AC if you do this.

But it never dropped below 78 degrees all night. When the forcast had it dropping down to 50!

" I would be careful to use a handle such as 'Common Sense' when you don't even know the seasons. Summer is not upon us, in fact were still in Spring. The only thing common about that statement is that far to many people accept global warming is not happening. Read the numbers and records before you blog out such nonsense, hey how about common nonsense. "

dellasumbrella wrote on May 15, 2008 1:29 PM:

" Wrong, commonsense, it's not summer. Not until late June. It's mid May. It's a drought year. Where I live, it often gets to over a hundred in the summer, but this is a different sort of heat. Warm, north winds with lacey clouds all night long, humid, then just plain hot. I love heat, but dread drought, and we're close. Anyway, maybe we should start getting used to it. Learn to love 80 (we set our cooler at 84 -- didn't have one for the first 10 years we lived here, but yes, it has been getting hotter each summer, and we've been getting older). Keep a spray bottle handy when outdoors, drink a lot (of water, juices -- alcohol dehydrates), and please don't waste water. Learn to move slowly when it's over 95 or so. One problem is most people have become so dependent on AC (some work places keep it at 65 in the summer), that they will not be able tolerate the earth's hotflashes. The summers in parts of Napa County are as hot as the African Sahel. I expect temps of at least 115 for at least 30 days total during summer. I don't expect, let me see... 104 and climbing on May 15. Welcome to quasi-desert climate! I've hosed the horses down, the grasses are cut, and I'm ready to soak our house perimeter should there be a fire. Not unlikely. "
