Clara White
SPOKANE, Wash. - Clara M. White, 91, resident of Napa for 53 years, passed away peacefully at Kimberly's Cottage Adult Home in Spokane, Wash., on July 30, 2008. She had moved to the area to be near her son and daughter.
Clara was born in Ibex, Colo., near Leadville on July 19, 1917, to John and Amalia Pretti, Italian immigrants. In 1922 she moved to Denver, Colo., where she attended St. Mary's Grammar School and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. She did clerical work for several offices in Denver, and in 1950 she married Francis White in Denver.
After her marriage she came to California, and in 1954 they moved to Napa as a result of her husband's employment with PG&E. He was the warehouse foreman in Napa for many years.
During the years her children attended St. John's Catholic School, she was active in the mother's club and many other parish organizations. She was a member of the Altar Society, Institute No. 26 of the YLI, the Italian Catholic Federation, Catholic Social Services, and Birthright. For many years she and her husband attended daily Mass at St. John's.
Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Francis (in February of 2004), to whom she had been married for 53 years; also by her sister, Stella Pretti in January of 2004 and her brother, Raymond Pretti.
She is survived by her son, Ray White and his wife, Danette of Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Marilyn Major and her husband, Dave of Napa and Barbara Roberts of Lewiston, Idaho.
She is survived by her six grandchildren: Dan and Chelsea White; Agatha Trickey and her husband, Jacob; Roxanne Sims; Heather Major; and Julie Morgan and her husband, Michael. She has four great-grandchildren: Nichelaus, Arika, Jacob and Katherine.
The funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church, 960 Caymus St., Napa. The rosary will be held Monday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m., at the Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., Napa.
