Huether not a Napa council candidate

With the filing deadline for Napa City Council two days away, city of Napa Planning Commissioner Gordon Huether announced he will not be a candidate.
As things now stand, the November city ballot could be a short one. Don Huffman, a local business owner, is challenging Mayor Jill Techel, and Amber Martin, daughter of former Councilman Harry Martin, is running against incumbent council members Jim Krider and Mark van Gorder.
Huether said a month ago that he was considering running for council. In a prepared statement Tuesday, Huether said he was enjoying his work on the Planning Commission, while the demands of running his arts studio were keeping him busy.
“Napa is going through some tremendous growing pains and a steady hand is needed on deck,” Huether said of his commission responsibilities.
“I have also recently opened our new 15,000-square-foot studio and art gallery on Monticello Road and I still have my hands full running our business,” he said.
Huether said he was leaving open the possibility of running for public office in the future.
Former Police Chief Dan Monez had also weighed a council bid, but announced in July that he had too many other responsibilities.
The deadline for filing with the City Clerk for mayor or council is 5 p.m. Friday unless one of the incumbents chooses not to run. Then the deadline would be extended a week.
