Rage edged in tourney title game decided by shootout

The Napa Rage under-12 girls select soccer team finished second in the Solano Summer Classic, winning two games on Saturday before falling to the Solano CyberRays twice on Sunday at Octo Field in Fairfield.

The Rage opened with a 5-0 win over the Solano Storm on Saturday. Claire Moffett scored two goals and Bridget Vanoni, Eloisa Alvarez and Lorena Ballines each added one. Mia Vanoni, Morgan Malloy, Bridget Vanoni and Aylin Munoz each contributed one assist.
Munoz had a hat trick in a 4-1 win over Laguna Pibas Too, as the Rage scored all of its goals in the second half. Munoz assisted Malloy on the first goal, then Malloy returned the favor on the other three. Mia Vanoni and Ashton Tapp had the other two assists.

The Rage fell to the CyberRays 1-0 on Sunday, then played the CyberRays again in the championship game.
The title match scoreless after regulation and 10-minute overtime period, forcing it to be decided in a penalty-kick shootout. The CyberRays outscored the Rage 3-1 on PKs to prevail.

The Rage’s defense dominated on Sunday, as the back line of Addie Dearden, Esmeralda Palencia, Sophia Apostolou, A.J. Diakon and Lorena Ballines coupled with goalkeepers Munoz, Kylee Malley, Bridget Vanoni and Tapp kept the CyberRays in check until the final shootout.
Indiana Ravenhill and Kelly Snider also played well on both sides of the ball for the Rage, which will be competing in District 5 play as well as The Wine Country Classic on Aug. 30-31 at Napa’s West Park.
