Realtor Cathy D’Angelo Holmes announces two new tenants for the Napa Square complex rising around the old Wells Fargo Bank building at First and Franklin streets in downtown Napa.

The first tenants are Michael Holmes Design, which will open a design center and floral store, and Spinelle Fine Jewelers. They should be opening early next year.
A women’s clothing store will also move into the complex.

The impressive complex has three stories with underground parking (a first in Napa, but soon to be followed by the Riverfront development) and two floors of offices.
A plaza inside the complex is designed for a restaurant, though one hasn’t been signed yet.

You can check out the plans of the complex at www.cdidev.com/napasquare.html.
The original proposal included plans to close School Street and make that an attractive plaza. The city nixed that due to the cost, but it would be a welcome addition to the pedestrian city hall.

Appellation America moves to Napa

Appellation America, the Web site devoted to highlighting the various distinctive appellations across America, has moved to downtown Napa.

The Web site has attracted many well-known writers and some controversy.

The West Coast office is at Appellation America Inc., 1835 First St., Napa.

The phone number is 320-2453.

Michael Chiarello planning video series

In addition to his opening NapaStyle retail store and café, and planning a full restaurant called Bottega, Michael Chiarello plans to record a new TV series in the Barrel Room of V Marketplace in Yountville.

His “Easy Entertaining” and “NapaStyle” programs now running are fun and useful.

A reality TV series all about the wine maker

The new public television series “The Wine Makers” joins 12 men and women as they compete for a chance to create and launch their own wine label.

The first season of “The Wine Makers” was shot in Paso Robles and will begin airing in early 2009.

Now the producers are planning the second season and decided that Napa and Sonoma are ideal locations.

Auditions will be held in Napa in September.

To register for an audition, go to www.winemakerstv.net.

Restoration of Charles Krug complete

Nearly two years and $8 million after it began, restoration of two national historic landmark buildings at the Peter Mondavi family’s Charles Krug Winery are now complete.

Founded in 1861, Charles Krug is Napa Valley’s earliest remaining winery.

Locals save at CIA “student store”

Residents of Napa County can save 15 percent on their purchases at the Spice Islands Marketplace inside the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Electronic appliances and items already reduced are excluded from the offer.

The marketplace showcases top brands in cookware, bakeware, cutlery and culinary tools and specialty food products from around the world.

The marketplace also carries more than 1,500 books including those on wine making, tasting and pairing.

" "Pedestrian city hall"? Hmm ... no-parking zone or commentary? "

" I'm a bit skeptical, but I say "good" so far. At least there are tenants lining up. How long they'll stay is another matter. Or is this building just being built for fun to have more empty storefronts like another project along Main? I hate having visitors stay with us (can't afford a hotel here) and taking them downtown and explaining empty buildings. "That was where the old 'foo' was, it was great." "That was where a bookstore used to be, I miss that." Etc. I look forward to the day when downtown is more vibrant with shops and have everything you need downtown. A small Walgreens would be nice too. But that's a pipe dream. "
