NOTES AND QUOTES for a Thursday in the Napa Valley:
With two years of eligibility remaining, Kevin Robledo is taking the next step in his football career, transferring to Chowan University, an NCAA-Division II school located in Murfreesboro, N.C., that plays an independent schedule.
Robledo is a 2005 Napa High School graduate and was a slot receiver last year for Santa Rosa Junior College, which runs a “Fast Break” offense, a no-huddle, pass-oriented attack out of the shotgun with four-receiver sets. He caught a 14-yard touchdown pass as the Bear Cubs beat Yuba Community College-Marysville 28-7 in a nonconference game. It was Robledo’s first TD reception for Santa Rosa.
He transferred to Santa Rosa after playing his first year of college football at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Ariz. Robledo made four starts at quarterback. He enrolled at SRJC in the summer of 2006.
Robledo was Napa’s quarterback in 2004 when the Indians compiled a 9-2-1 record and won their third straight Monticello Empire League championship. Napa went on to beat Grant-Sacramento before falling to Nevada Union-Grass Valley in the quarterfinals of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs.
He had a big senior season of football at Napa, passing for 1,409 yards, rushing for 928 yards, and accounting for 12 total touchdowns. He was First-Team All-MEL at punter and Second-Team at quarterback. He was named All-Napa County on offense and Honorable Mention All-Metro by The Sacramento Bee.
Team meetings today will be followed by Chowan’s first official practice on Friday afternoon. The 2008 season opener at Elizabeth City State University is Aug. 30.
Robledo worked in security for the Oakland Raiders at their summer training camp at Redwood Middle School and the Napa Valley Marriott.
He plans to major in kinesiology.

Mike Gibson of Napa is listed third on the Philadelphia Eagles’ depth chart at left guard.
Gibson, a two-time All-Pac-10 selection at tackle for UC Berkeley, was taken by the Eagles in the sixth round of the NFL Draft in April.
He is a 2004 Napa High graduate and the winner of the Ken Cotton Award as Cal’s most courageous player.

Football practices have started for the University of Wyoming Cowboys, who have Ian Hetrick, a senior quarterback who played at Vintage and Santa Rosa JC. The Cowboys won’t make a decision on their starting quarterback until later in the month.
Hetrick completed 19 of 41 passes for 211 yards and also rushed for 22 yards last year.

The Golden State Warriors will open their 2008-09 NBA season at Oracle Arena on Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. when the club plays host to the New Orleans Hornets.
Last season, the Warriors finished the regular season with a 48-34 record — the team’s best mark in 14 years — and were 27-14 at home. Additionally, the Warriors sold out 32 of 41 home contests and established a new single-season franchise record in attendance (averaged 19,631 per game).
Golden State is slated to make eight national television appearances this season, with seven games scheduled on ESPN and one appearance on TNT. The Warriors’ initial nationally televised game will be ESPN’s coverage of Golden State’s home contest against the Denver Nuggets on Nov. 5 at Oracle.
After playing 23 of their first 36 games of the season on the road, the Warriors begin a stretch in which they’ll play 17 of 23 contests at Oracle by hosting Kobe Bryant and the Western Conference champion Los Angeles Lakers on Jan. 7.

Sean Patton, a 10-year-old golfer, made a hole-in-one on the par-3, 101-yard 13th hole at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo on Tuesday. Patton hit a Titleist Pro VI ball. He used a 7-iron.
Patton has been playing golf since he was 2 years old. This is the first ace in his eight-year golf experience. Patton is a Vacaville resident and frequently plays golf at Hiddenbrooke. The hole-in-one also marks an early birthday gift for Patton as his birthday is Aug. 15.
Hiddenbrooke is an Arnold Palmer signature course featuring dramatic elevation changes and dynamic water features. There are multiple sets of tees.
From 2000-02, the tournament-tested venue hosted the Samsung World Championship, an LPGA event that featured the top 20 international female golfers.
