Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger recently joined the governors of Oregon and Washington in announcing ambitious goals to safeguard critical marine resources along the West Coast.

In his Aug. 10 letter, Duane Cronk expressed concerns about the proposed Angwin eco-village (“Questioning the premise of the Angwin eco-village”). However, to judge the legitimacy of his objections, one must compare the eco-village to the county’s pre-approved 191-unit affordable housing plan supported by Mr. Cronk and Save Rural Angwin.

Three years have passed since Hurricane Katrina lashed the Gulf Coast. The people of New Orleans felt abandoned by their country then. And while they are optimistic about their future, they feel forgotten now.

At  8 o’clock Monday morning Old Sonoma Road was — briefly —  impassable. The public parking lot by the softball fields on Freeway Drive was packed. Buhman Road was buzzing, with car doors popping open and slamming shut as parents pulled to the curb.

Dear editor, with a positive attitude and proper medication, my arthritis can be manageable and easy to live with. On Friday, Aug. 8, as I was leaving the Vallejo Kaiser medical facility, I began to focus on my pain and felt myself drowning in a sea of self-pity.

Dear editor, I have always believed in my heart that there are a lot of good people in the world today if you give them a chance. We hear so much negativity, especially about young people. Well I have to tell you what happened to my dear friend Max and I.     

Fareed Zakaria, one of the most insightful and interesting writers on issues of general political importance to Americans, has recently written a follow up book to his last one, "The Future of Freedom.” The new book is called, "The Post American World.” Both books are outstanding and I would recommend them to anyone.

Proposition 8, the "Limit on Marriage, Constitutional Amendment," on the November ballot, calls for an amendment to the state constitution, declaring that marriage can only be between a man and a woman.
